A Teen Plead for Expectants
If only judged by age, I would be considered a teen. I am still in high school wearing my backpack everywhere. And because of my age I am stereotyped as a thief. To all the store owners and old folks that look down on teen remember you where once my age to. How would you like it if every time you walk into a store you were asked to but your backpack down every time you walk into a store? How would you feel if every time you walked anywhere parents and older folks looked at you as if you where stealing something. As a teen there are 3 main categories that we fit in to. The druggies, the good-to-shoes and regular kids who sometimes get in trouble. I would fall into the third category. Every time you go anywhere as a teen you get blamed for actions that the druggy kids do. We are blamed for stealing, sneaking-out and all of these other horrible things.
I want to appeal to you the adults of the world to stop stereotyping teens the way you do. Because it is your fault that kids are druggies. As teens, who do you think gives us the drugs that mess teens life’s up? Who do you think showed us what stealing was? The druggies and screw ups of the adult generation. You adults have mess ups to so why do you treat us so bad? We are really no different from you except for our age. Since there is not that big of a difference adults should give us more of a chance.
As a group our misunderstanding is that we are all like the druggies. We need to be given a chance to and not judge right off of the back. Instead of glaring at us and making us take off our backpacks as soon as we walk into a store give us a chance. As kids we need to be trusted if are to ever do something important with our lives.
Special considerations that adults should have for teens is that we are trying to grow up and get out of the house so we are going more places on our own. This is not because we are doing anything wrong it is just because we want to be independent from our parents.
